Blur Vision, Presbyopia ‘Lao Hua’
Blurring of vision can be caused by many factors. They can be caused simply because of dry eyes or refractive errors to due to more serious ailments like glaucoma or brain tumours affecting the visual pathways. It is always important to have one’s vision checked when there is a prolonged constant blurring of vision.
Presbyopia (“Lao Hua”) arises from the hardening of the lens in the eye as one ages. As a result, the autofocusing mechanism between near and distant objects becomes less agile. This usually occurs after the age of 40, hence marking the onset of “lao hua” or presbyopia. Reading glasses will help to alleviate this problem. A multifocal lens implant after cataract surgery can help correct “lao hua” or presbyopia..
